Frequently asked questions

Where does the book data come from?

Open Library — a free, open-source bibliographic database. No proprietary database, no subscription required.

What if the book isn't found?

You'll see a clear message. You can fill in the details manually — title, author, page count — and save.

Can I type an ISBN instead of scanning?

Yes — tap the ISBN field and type directly. The same Open Library lookup runs on save.

Does it work for all books?

Most books with ISBNs are in Open Library. Older or very niche books may not be found. In those cases, fill in details manually.

Is this the same as the food barcode scanner?

No — they're separate scanners. The food scanner uses Open Food Facts for nutrition data. The ISBN scanner uses Open Library for book data. Each is purpose-built.
